New treasures can be found at local consignment stores

Image
I have discovered so many wonderful consignment/vintage shops and antique stores here in the Coachella Valley, covering all nine cities. Yet, each store seems to have its own personality, and carries their own specialty merchandise. Not only do I find the owners, but the employees to be very knowledgeable and helpful. They all say they enjoy their jobs. If I was working there I would probably say the same thing, because you meet so many new people, and constantly can deal with new merchandise, and everything consigned has a story that goes with it. As having been an interior designer most of my life, I find it amazing to revisit the items I used to sell. Consignment shops are like museums, the only difference is that you can touch an item, feel it and upon purchase go home with it. In a museum you can only look, not touch, and certainly not take it home with you. These stores are not quick stores to visit. Plan on browsing and spending time, and when you go in thinking you want to buy a particular item, believe me you will end up buying a lot more.

If you are looking for an unusual gift you have hit the jackpot, as many people today collect certain things. One can always find that certain thing in a consignment store. Who knows you might get lucky like I did once in Santa Barbara, and bought a $385 Lalique bell for $12 and was even given the original Lalique box to take it home in. Because we live in a community that thrives with seniors we seem to acquire a large number of true treasures.

Also don’t forget to drop by and visit the Nature’s Path to Wellness Health Fair at the Westfield Palm Desert Mall, that I am producing on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

I will be taking a two month hiatus, as I do every year due to the seasonal slow down. So I encourage you to continue to shop, discover, and explore all of the wonderful establishments we have in the Coachella Valley. There will be new shops to write about when the season begins. Time passes quickly and I will be back in a flash.

Bermuda Dunes

M & B Consignment : 78-078 Country Club Drive, Suite 213. This consignment store carries a variety of merchandise and all periods are included. You will find furniture, accessories, and costume jewelry. They are known to sell merchandise on a regular basis as long as it is saleable. This is exactly what they sell. It is all consignment. I found the pricing to be reasonable, and found much of merchandise that would be great to give as gifts. Marty and Barbara have operated this business for two and half years. Marty is from England and has lent his taste to the traditional style of consignment. This is great because he is quite knowledgeable.

M and B Consignment is open six days a week from Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5p.m. and during season they are open on Sundays, as well. Accessories at good prices fill the store, and it is definitely possible to furnish your entire place from the shelves of this consignment store.

Cathedral City

Celebrity Consignments :57-602 E.Palm Canyon Drive. This particular consignment store is known just for furniture, arts and accessories. Steve and Christine Corio have been open for the last year , at this location. They also have a store in North Hollywood, where they do furniture manufacturing. The merchandise is funky, fun and elegant. I found a lot of smart accessories including purses, and wall décor, as well. My interest was definitely peaked by the many unusual items they had in stock. I was especially impressed by their glassware, most notably the bowls. Their policy is to accept consignment for 90 days and each 30 days the price of the item is lowered. If the item is not sold in 90 days they have you pick it up or they donate it to a charity. The large selection of jewelry they have, and many other of the consigned items are from celebrities, and have a lot of interesting stories behind them. Tommy and Brenda who work there are very helpful in that area. Celebrity Consignments is a very classy store, with classy merchandise. They are open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5p.m.

Carol Dean Resale Therapy: 67-800 E.Palm Canyon Drive. Clothes! Clothes! and more Clothes! They carry merchandise for men and women. They accept business wear, formal wear, and everyday wear and accessories and previously enjoyed designer bags, sandals, boots, belts and scarves. Carol Dean Resale Therapy is known for accepting items for consignment from Gap to Gucci. The items must be current season clothing. They have a 90 day, with a three mark down pricing during the 90 days. You receive 40% of all items sold during the 90 day selling period. This store is truly like a large grand department store, all on one floor. You will find unusual jewelry at all different price points, very nicely displayed. So plan to spend some time checking everything out. They are open seven days a week, 10a.m. to 5p.m. For you men, looking for Tommy Bahama, they have a large selection of shirts priced very well.
