Add a splash of color to your wardrobe and home this summer

Image
Summer represents color to me, and during those months, the heat is so intense it creates the desire for very colorful clothing, to match the feel of our environment. In the past stores were filled with everything white , and now the fashion designers have created lightweight fabric in bold colors. White has become boring as a full look, and people like the soft flowing colorful fabrics that clothes are made of today. Everyone likes choices. I find in Palm Springs in particular, that color is a big thing. When you enter a store that is full of color, it gives you a good feeling of the surroundings of that store. Every color comes in many shades, which makes mixing and matching create a desireable effect. The color spills over to jewelry, shoes and accessories.

Even when you need a gift, you can go into any boutique, and find unusual gift items for any occasion. I know the stores are expanding their inventory to accommodate the needs of shoppers. During these hot months, let’s make a point to get out and see all the colorful merchandise that is available. And remember these merchants pay a hefty air conditioning bill to make it comfortable for you to shop. So, let’s not air condition just clothes on a rack, but support your local shops and keep the supply of fantastic merchandise available to us, summer or winter, spring or fall.

Palm Springs:

Refresh; 333 North Palm Canyon, Suite 108A, Palm Springs. This very colorful mid-century modern store sells a revival of items from the past. It is not a consignment store, it is a store that will purchase items from people that are collectibles. The owner Douglas Danielson, states that he owns the merchandise in his store, and he seeks out wonderful collectibles to enhance the store.

Douglas has had the store open for nine months now and was previously an executive chef in Iowa. A lot of glassware and miscellaneous furnishings can be found in the store. Their summer hours from Thursday through Sunday are : 1:00p.m. to 9 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The Douglas can be reached anytime for special appointments at (760) 409-0862.

Pictured top left is a vase by Chiavon appraised at $8,400 and it can be purchased at Refresh for $1,300, along with the authenticated book of this artist. The merchandise ranges anywhere from hundreds of dollars and up, and the values are quite exceptional. Refresh your home in this colorful store.

Kimbals, 290 North Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs. This is another fairly new store in Palm Springs, which is a amazing boutique. It is run by its owner, Kim Galland. She has such a wonderful and friendly personality, and is my kind of person because she makes you feel welcome when you enter her store. For fourteen years she was out at Cabazon Outlets, and has now chosen to fit in with all the boutiques in Palm Springs. The store carries basic merchandise and features clothing, mainly for the Miss clientele, small to 3X. I might add that the prices at the store are quite affordable for such good quality merchandise. The store is well appointed with accessories, jewelry, purses and other items, to add to the colorful collection of clothing. You will definitely share the feelings of this establishment being known for exciting resort wear, and find the choices of colorful clothing ever present.

For a small boutique, everything is displayed in a very roomy way, and you will find it a pleasure to shop at Kimbals. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. except for Thursdays when they don’t close until 10 p.m. during VillageFest.

Valeries; 148 North Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs. This boutique has been open now for two years, and owner Tatiana is from the Ukraine, has a European flair in purchasing merchandise for her store. Valeries carries dressy to casual, including some very unusual bathing suits that you might see in Cannes. The sizing ranges from small to plus sizes and they carry a lot of unique items, at great discounted prices. Tatiana herself is known for her exquisite handmade jewelry, that she creates and designs. Again this is another store that has a very colorful feel to it. Valeries is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., except Thursdays when they are open until 10 p.m. during VillageFest. Currently Tatiana is in the Ukraine, and will be back in the middle of August, and it will be interesting to see what exciting items she brings back from Europe. I know I will be stopping by to see her new treasures in the store.

REMEMBER this is the last chance to get on board the Shopping Expedition to 22 “treasure” stops at stores in our Coachella Valley. It will be a day of shopping from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in an air conditioned bus with drawings, a scrumptious lunch and a lot of fun. Join us for a day of shopping on Wednesday, July 31 and see many of the wonderful stores I have written about. Men are welcome and some have already signed up. For reservations call Bette King at (760) 202-4007.
